Susan Wise Bauer is a writer, educator, and historian. As a homeschooling mom of five kids, I thought I would be buying one of these for each of my students. The first half of this massive book is for teacher use. It has review questions, additional resources, and activities to include in your lesson plans. The second half is the student pages.I've decided to keep only one copy for myself to use in lesson planning, and return the rest. For families with more than one child, the student pages can either be copied or purchased separately from the publisher printed or in PDF format.I really wish the teacher's materials had been printed in the hardcover text rather than this activity book, that way parents could purchase one "teachers book" and as many "student books" as they need.

I happily admit that I LOVE projects. This book is a amazing! The projects are simple for adults (meaning not expensive, not time consuming, you don't need to hire a contractor to finish it) these low frustration activities have been a wonderful way to reinforce our story of the world lessons. I'd pay 5 times the amount and still feel like it's a good value.

I LOVE THIS ACTIVITY BOOK! We recently switched to using Story of the World Vol. 1 from another curriculum and have been having such a blast thanks to the ideas in this book. It is extremely well organized with chapter by chapter activities, reading lists, narration questions, etc. to add a rich experience to the Story of the World experience. I was on the fence about buying the activity book, but decided to try it after reading so many positive reviews on Amazon, on the Cathy Duffy Review site, etc. However, I am so glad that we bought it! We are only a few weeks in, but my kids have loved the suggested, simple activities such as creating cave painting, a mock archaeological site, and soon...mummifying a chicken (ancient Egypt--you get the idea!). Everything is simple, yet deep, and that's how I love to teach. It creates teachable moments for building critical thinking and inquiry skills in the kids so that they are truly encouraged to engage with the subject as active participants. As a former high school history teacher turned homeschooling mama, I love it! In fact, I wish I had known about it when I was teaching in a formal classroom because it enhances the material so much more. If you're on the fence, spring for the activity book. You won't regret the memories you'll make and the time you'll save by having such a valuable resource available for your planning.

GREAT buy! We listen to the audio CD, and kids color and go through the activities listed from this book. We love the maps, coloring pages, and activities. Just be sure to only buy ONLY one of these books for the family- you can per copyright in the book print/duplicate the handouts/maps, ect. for your family use. Half the book is reccomendations/lesson plans for the teacher, the other half are print outs for the kids. Even if you are only doing this with one child, you will want to be printing out the activities/handouts, not having them work in this book. The maps are great because you can actually SEE where the history and story you are listening to is happening. Nobody should have the CD without this book! And the CD is great too... I would probably be bored just reading the regular volumes. My kids are actually quiet and listening when we have the CD on and printouts to color and do. I enjoy it myself! I have ages 4 and 8.

This activity book is a must have if you're using Story of The World. It has a variety of fun activities to choose from, there is truly something for every age group. I am using this book for my 5 and 7 year olds and they enjoy doing the map work and a lot of the various crafts, they really help you get a feel for the story. I find the review questions perfectly easy for kids of this age. The list of supplemental reading books has been great at all. Overall, great buy!

These books are great! Started with Jim Weiss's audio CDs, added the books (we needed the pictures he referred to!) and then got the test booklets (to see if we really were getting the point of each chapter) and finally added these last year. A homeschool conference speaker recommended not leaving out the fun stuff that makes the lasting memories. We do the activities together once a week with a couple of other families who are also reading the books and we highly recommend it! Sorry we took so long to get on board with the fun! You won't regret adding this to your SOW collection. We choose one activity per chapter and the families take turns getting supplies and instructions ready.

So far, my son and I are LOVING this series! We are reading it together for our history in our homeschool and he is really engaged and excited about reading each chapter, and even loves the quizzes in the other accompanying book! Such an AMAZING compilation of historical information all put together in one set of amazing books! Thank you!!!

We were really stoked about getting this, when I skimmed through it there were a few pages that were colored on which I wasn’t too worried about but then later realized there were some pages missing. Bummer. Just had to skip that part. There are some things in the book that are pretty far out like Egypt Activity instructions on how to mummify a chicken XD (kind of reads like “how to expose you and your kid to salmonella” but ok. Maybe we will get brave and go for it, for science!! Extensive book lists. I really thought this book would expand the curriculum but it’s kinda ‘meh’.
