This book has useful phrases and information about the Russian language for a long stay in Russia and it's probably very handy for that. But for someone with no Russian experience looking for phrases for being a tourist for two weeks, I found the book difficult and not very helpful in real situations. Often I would just want to find a really simple phrase like "excuse me" and be flipping through hundreds of really specific phrases like "The handle on this drawer is broken" (i made that up, but something like that). Yes, the basic phrases are all in the beginning but it's not easy to find because they're amidst paragraphs explaining nuances about grammar, and the phrases I was looking for were never where I thought they would be. Also, the cyrillic letter charts in this book are really confusing and I don't think you can learn it from this book alone. I did learn cyrillic from another small book my husband bought that was just for that. I think this book might as well include a few extra pages to fill in the gaps in the cyrillic section.

This is a GREAT little book if you're looking for something to help brush up with and the reason is because it is packed with all kind of different situations and scenarios. A mile wide and an inch deep. Having studied Russian in high school 25 years ago I bought this as a refresher as I didn't want to commit to a real hardcore text book. It's great to have sitting on a table next to you and when you have a spare minute pick it up and thumb to a random page. It really helped to recall lots of things I forgot about and I learned a lot of new, and more modern, phrases. Highly recommend this book. Contains lots of Cyrillic text in addition to English but goes a step further and offers Romanized versions of the Russian words and phrases, which are helpful to those that haven't learned the Russian alphabet, and want to at least be able to offer up a sort of broken Russian pronunciation to squeak by if this is your travel aid.

We just got back from a trip to Russia and this phrase book came in handy. We didn't use it a lot because most of the people we dealt with either spoke English or we could grunt and gesture enough to make ourselves understood. The book is well organized to highlight phrases that one would deal with while traveling or shopping or dining, etc. Plus it has a small English to Russian and Russian to English section in the back. It is small enough to fit in a pocket and doesn't rely on cell phone signals or WiFi like a phone app would.It would work well for a casual traveler. If you want a heavy duty English/Russian dictionary, however, this is not what you want.

This is an excellent, small, book covering many subjects, and containing the Cyrillic spellings and English pronunciations, as well as some grammar. I need it to teach English to immigrants, and it's fine for that, especially since I already know some Russian. The only problem is that the print is delicate and pale, not necessarily easy to read in dim light. Also, developing Russian pronunciation can definitely require practice with a native speaker.

I purchased this little book for my mother-in-law For an upcoming trip to Russia. She is traveling with a high school reunion group, and no one in the party speaks Russian. This book seems like it will be very useful as it has phrases organized into well thought out categories such as restaurants, shopping, medical, etc. The English to Russian dictionary in the back should be able to help with any phrases that they cannot find throughout the book, or in case they're looking for a particular word. It is small enough to fit in one's pocket easily and should not be a burden to carry while travelling. Nice small lil quick book for when traveling and wanting to know simple words or quick conversations. And definitely something to add to when you are learning the language.

A very helpful guide because you get phonetic pronunciation. Also has dictionary with phonetics. Fits in pocket or purse. Don't think it would be very helpful without some pre-trip Russian language learning, however. Russian is at first hard; then very fun and addicting.

This book is okay for someone who already speaks Russian or who is at least familiar or rusty and wants to brush up! Since I do not speak Russian, am older with a lower concentration level than earlier in life, I don't find it as helpful as I had hoped. I will be able to glean some useful phrases, so it is not a total waste for me.
